Oya No Kai's mission is to enhance the level of cultural education in the Japanese Dual Language Immersion Program. We support student success by fostering a robust intern program that supports our teachers, by creating opportunities for students to experience Japanese culture directly through cultural exchanges, and by organizing community events. We hope that when our students graduate, they will be better prepared and more knowledgeable of the world around them.

2025 Artwork
We are so excited to announce this year's artwork was designed by JDLI 11th grader Saya Tipton.
From the Artist:
"I have so many things I love about Japan, but something that stands out is my love for shrines and temples. Although I am not religious of any kind, I find these places beautiful. There are many of these shrines and temples scattered around Japan, and they are slowly getting demolished as the city grows. There is a small shrine near my grandma’s house, and the carer of the shrine seems to have stopped sweeping the stone pathway, stopped repairing the cracks that appear in the Torii, and the statues of foxes that look over the small shrine seem sad. Maybe the carer of the shrine has grown too old to take care of it. Whenever I am in Japan, I visit that shrine and brush off the foxes. I like to remind them that I appreciate them. The love and care that people treat shrines with is what I thought made them so beautiful, but I learned that it is the quiet and peaceful environment that makes them so special, especially when we are surrounded by a loud and unappreciative city. I drew the shrine I love because I wanted people to know and stop to appreciate the spaces that Japanese people have created generations ago, and are slowly disappearing in our modern day society."
